With your Amway™ Independent Business, you’re in a business of your own, but you are never alone. Your upline, the IBOAI®, your Approved Provider, and the Amway Corporation are here to assist you with what you need to help you succeed. For many – especially IBOs whose background is not in business – one important key to success is the use of professional development resources.
Professional development resources available to IBOs are known as Business Support Materials (“BSM”). BSM can be helpful tools for providing optional training and education to IBOs, an important part of any sales-driven organization.
Pursuant to the Enhanced Amway Promise Program (“EAP”), and as set forth in the Quality Assurance Program Standards (“QAS”) and Rule 7.1.2 of the Rules of Conduct:
There is no cost to become an IBO.
IBOs in their first contract year, as defined in the Amway Registration and Renewal agreements, Approved Providers (“AP”) are not permitted to charge first contract year IBOs, directly or indirectly, for any BSM.
First contract year IBOs are not permitted to purchase BSM from an AP or an IBO.
APs may provide complimentary BSM to a first contract year IBO.
To enable IBOs to focus on building successful businesses with BSM without risk, Amway requires sellers of BSM to maintain a buy-back policy. Please see Rule 7 of the Rules of Conduct for further information about the creation, promotion, use, and sale of BSM.
Except for the purchase of tickets to seminars, events and other business meetings, IBOs who purchase BSM are entitled to 180-day buy-back from the seller of BSM on commercially reasonable terms if they are not satisfied with their purchase.
Rule 7.1.3.3 requires that each IBO who chooses to sell tickets to seminars, events and other business meetings is obligated to buy back tickets purchased for the purchaser’s personal use for a period of 30 days after the event. Such refund shall be for that portion of the cost of the event related to admission to the event, exclusive of the cost of travel, meals or hotel accommodations.
o IBOs who choose to purchase, promote, distribute or offer BSM shall use reasonable efforts to determine that the quantity and cost of BSM are reasonably related to sales volume and profits of that purchaser’s IB.
It should always be made clear that use of these resources does not guarantee success. What worked for one person may, or may not, work for another. No one ever built a successful business without putting in time and effort.
For those who are committed to putting the time and energy in their Amway™ Independent Business, BSM can be important resources to help build a balanced, successful business.
This Best Practices Message gives you a few highlights or reminders – but can’t cover everything you need to remember, so you may want to review the appropriate Rules of Conduct for further and complete information.
